Anhui province is rich in scenic beauty. It is home to Huangshan (Yellow Mountain) which was added to UNESCO’s list of world heritage sites in 1990. Although most tourists find autumn and spring the most comfortable time to visit, the winters are not cold enough to keep domestic and international travelers from coming to marvel at the snowy landscape from atop Huangshan. Some even prefer the winter since it gives them a good excuse to lounge in the many hot springs around Anhui.

The Shexian area is full of examples of classic Chinese architecture from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Near Huangshan you can visit Xidi and Hongcun to experience what ancient China was like in these well-preserved villages. And if architecture interests you, be sure not to miss the Tangyue Memorial Archway.

Also in Anhui you will find Jiuhua, one of the four sacred Buddhist Mountains. To get slightly off the beaten path, other mountains worth visiting are Tianzhu and Langya.
